About 40 minutes is how long this journey lasted. I lost track of the time quickly. Piracy Meets Tommy Dubs mix tape. The prelude to a much anticipated album. These artists have pulled the inspiration of life here in San Diego mixed it with reggae vibes, deep dub and dub-step music, and painted it their own color. This mix tape takes you through Dancehall, Culture, Consciousness, and Roots. The heavy drum and bass with grooving melodies are what I’ve been looking for in new music. I haven’t been this excited for a collaboration since “Distant Relatives”.
Piracy Mel C‘s honest and variant vocals keep the music transforming. She can mash it up tuff in her dancehall flows and still keep it light and positive on chorus. The message is oneness. A way of life is offered. The dub influence makes it catchy and transition well. This teaser is just a taste of what we will be awaiting. The compliment of Tommy Dubs easy smoky California vibes with Piracy’s hard rebel style brings balance to the track. This is sounds from San Diego. The concept is fresh and Mel C gives me hope for the preservation of Dancehall music. With so many international artists missing out on gigs because of the economic hardships the world is experiencing, this style of international music is kept in good company with us in San Diego. I will be checking Piracy live soon.
Tommy Dub’s creates a sound for our coastline. His lyrics and flow are a step above the mainstream. The love for this project is apparent in his voice. This is heavy music with a lot of messages. His smoky acoustic voice is easily traded in for harder rhyme’s and I would even say a hip-hop style. The engineering and pulling together or the “dubbing” if you will, of this music is awesome. The heavy beats and melodies are all unique and pull together well almost to tell a story. I can’t imagine the time spent putting this together. I will be getting this album for sure. Listen and Share, 40 minutes of massive tunes.
